Portfolio Options

Hey. Thanks for doing this. I need to get rid of 4 photos. So I would ideally like to know which 5 to take out. I was also told in a portfolio review to pick photos that were more than just "nature is pretty" so if you could keep that in mind too that would be awesome. Thanks

Digital Photos
They ask what medium it is. Do I just say 'Digital' or is it something else? Also they want the dimensions. Do I say the pixels or do I say it in inches because most of these haven't actually been printed out before.

B&W Film Photos
I would ideally like to keep all of these just because are film, but if not thats ok too. At a portfolio review with CCA the woman really liked the spider web one. Apparently it is more than just "nature is pretty". I don't know whether or not to put it in though because it's not actually my favorite, but if she liked it then maybe I should use it. Also, what do I say the medium is for these?

  1. how many can you have max? i tend to think that s few mini-series sets would show that you can create cohesive & expressive work. from these here, i would suggest the 4 b&w from the tea garden (silver gelatin print & size), then consider a set of 2-3 of the silhouette in window series. the landscapes are beautiful (and great compositions), but images that suggest a bit of story/poetry/emotion might make a bigger impression. think about this and comment here. in the meantime, i will look through your old posts and make additional suggestions. ok? nice work, Benny!

  3. thank you so much. unfortunately the portfolio is limited to 15 pieces. but i only have room for 7 photographs since i also am submitting prints and stained glass. i decided to put in 3 from the tea garden to make a series. i will add 2 more silhouette photos to make a series like you suggested. and then i will have room for one random photo. for the digital photography, what do i call the medium? also what dimensions do i use? pixels? inches? thanks so much again.

  4. i suggest using the silhouette of the person pulling the curtain diagonally across the frame (dark values). You could add another from the series to make a set of three (all together, the most cohesive are last 2 in series, plus 4th to last). consider adding the last grid image of the rooftops with clouds from your grid work. these all can be labeled 'digital photograph', use inches of the image size for dimensions.
